The Lawrence Hotel Building

 19th-century building on San Fernando Street in San Jose, CAFour Alarm Fire on Jan. 8, 2021.
This was the former location of Twice Read Books, which I often frequented. One day I discovered a book by Bernice Abbot, a photographer that documented New York City in the ’30s and 40’s. Her essay on Changing New York City and Documenting the City inspired me to start photographing San Jose. Here I am, 20 years later, heartbroken.
